When we camp over Columbus Day weekend and it's rather cold and damp - we usually cook a Turkey over the open fire pit. It always comes out moist and has a smoky flavor!

A 15 pound turkey usually takes about 5 hours - it gives you plenty of time to sit by the fire and read or just chat with friends.

I took this at a wedding party this past weekend. The only thing I did to it was add a Vignette so the focus was more on the hands.

Handfasting was traditionally a very simple ceremony – the bride and groom faced each other and joined right hand to right hand and left hand to left hand and were bound by a ceremonial wrap or rope. In Scotland the cloth was usually a piece of the groom’s family tartan.

The expression of “tying the knot” came from this early Celtic marriage ritual. Later Irish, Scots, and the Welsh also adopted this ritual. Handfasting is thought to be Pagan in origin but the symbolism surrounding this ritual was so expressive it found its way into some factions of Catholicism practiced in Britain after the rise of Christianity.

This shot was taken at the NH Highland Games and it totally amazes me what kids will attempt to do these days. This young man's dad is one of the drummers in the Mohawk Valley Frasers Pipe Band. He was doing quite well.

I know the quality of the picture isn't the best but I took this thru a whole in a chain link fence.

Standing stones or Chambered Cairns in Carsluith Scotland.

Cairn Holy Chambered Cairns, an ancient place of worship and burial dating back to before 4000BC.

Cairn Holy II is said to be the tomb of the mythical King Galdus.

Even today small rituals are carried out on the site with people leaving flowers and candles. The area is encircled by hills to the west, north and east but open to the sea in the south, with views across Wigtown Bay to the Machars and the Isle of Man on the horizon.

It’s a beautiful spot to just sit and look and feel the peace and tranquillity.

Just before we left for our trip -- we got a chance to celebrate Uncle Roger's 100th Birthday! This is my husband's uncle and he is amazing -- we love listening to his stories and tall tales! As you can see from the picture of him alone - he's giving me the "eye" because I'm taking his picture!

Hello everyone -

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted. We are finally on the road for our cross country trip. We are on the Missouri / Illinois border and have visited with friends and relatives in a couple of different places. I have to say that the traveling across Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio were pretty bleak. It was only when we arrived in Dayton that we found there were trees in bloom! I have not done a lot of picture taking as it has been either raining or we were driving and there has been nothing that has jumped out at me.

Yesterday we went to the Wright-Patterson Air Museum and I will post the next couple of pictures from there. If you ever have the chance to go -- it was unbelieveable -- we spent from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and never saw it all.

I will try to keep up with my postings but WiFi is sketchy. This is the first night the campground has had it. I will be looking for a place to buy an aircard soon. This is very frustrating not being able to log on.

The picture is of Anne Hathaway's home in Stratford-upon-Avon. A little history follows: William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway were granted a marriage licence by the Bishop of Worcester. They were married at Temple Grafton, a village approximately five miles (8 km) from Stratford. After their marriage , as was the custom, Anne Hathaway Shakespeare would have left her home at Hewland Farm to live with William Shake-speare in his father, John Shakespeare's house on Henley Street in Stratford. Six months after the wedding and marriage, in May 1583, Anne and William became the parents of Susanna, the reason for Will and Anne Hathaway having to marry with such haste. The baptism of Susanna was conducted on May 26, in Stratford Parish Church. Will and his wife Anne Hathaway started their married life in Stratford.

Ed and I were in England and Scotland in May/June of 2008 and we saw incredible places. One of the castles we enjoyed because it was furnished and showed a lot of historical artifacts was Warwick Castle. This was one suit of armor on display.

As you can see by my last few pictures I am into my archives for pictures because I will never get caught up at this point and I've taken some pictures in the past that I feel are worth sharing.

We had a close friend pass away and it's been a difficult couple of weeks. On top of that, my former job has called me back to work which involves a long commute to and from so I'm putting in long hours.

The picture is from the chapel dedicated to the veterans at Edinburgh Castle. It was a very small chapel but had wonderful stained glass windows.

This one had to be pulled out from the past because it was perfect for the Theme. This is a series of photographs I took in Scotland. The first one was when I happened to look over the edge and see a group of sheep coming up the path. The second I saw the other sheep further out and started to watch them. The third they were all coming toward the path and the fourth there are no more in the field. I concluded -- they were following the leader.

The pictures should be viewed from the bottom up. Sorry -- I couldn't tell how they were loading.

As I said in an earlier post - we were visiting friends in NH this past weekend. He is a multi-talented musician. Hanging on his wall are a guitar, fiddle and a mandolin. He plays them all with equal talent. You will also see above the instruments a picture of the group he plays with! Our friend is the last on on the right.

I was on-line today ordering The Mile Post which is a book that gives you a description of every mile driving thru Alaska. It had a bunch of links and I really got lost out there for a while. I ended up on a Web Site for Chicken Alaska. I thought I'd do some research and see what kind of campground I could find. This was the description of Chicken Creek RV Park. I think they need to have a spell check set-up on their web site.

We were up in New Hampshire visiting friends yesterday and went by this in a farmers field. I'm sure many of you don't know that this is a manure spreader. I'm guessing that this is one of the routine Chores that had to be done when the planting season came around.

I have to tell you - I've been admiring Grants pictures of Nova Scotia with all the wonderful colors and I had this one from last summer with the beautiful yellow boat! I just had to post it.

Who put that there is a great Theme for this as there was this boat just stuck up on the dock! I love the way they just pulled it up and it stays there. If I did that the next tide would be taking it out to sea.

Things have been crazy around here. We've been trying out cars as we need to have a car that we can flat tow behind our motor home and we have finally bought a Honda CR-V! So now I can get back to the challenge!

Another of our travels around our area. This is a very rural area in Princeton, MA. I found this barn could be represented by a few of our Themes but the Rural I think fits it best. I love how they built the buildings up the side of the hill leaving the flat land for pasture and farming.

We were traveling along a back road in Sterling, MA looking for some cool pictures when we happened across this logging truck. They had finished for the day but had this one load still on the picker. It used to be that many men did the cutting but now they use this machine and it only takes one person for the job.

We were out for a ride test driving a new car and we, of course, had our cameras with us. We don't go anywhere these days without them. We came across this sign and again, I made Ed turn around and go back! That's also getting to be the norm these days.

There are 8 crayons in this sign and I just loved the colors and theme for a daycare center!

Ed and I went for a ride today looking for pictures to take! We were driving down the road towards my sister's house and we had to do a quick turn around because neither one of us could believe what we saw.

Candy / Turned Trail Mix

My husband is a candy lover and that makes up 50% of our trail mix which we make ourselves. When we prepare for a canoe trip we usually buy all sorts of things to go into the trail mix. M&M's, Juicy Fruits, Jelly Beans, small all sugar stars plus the good stuff like peanuts, granola, candy coated almonds. My husband says the sugar gives a good push to our energy and the nuts and granola sustains us. We usually package this in one cup packages and of course we always have enough to give away to anyone we meet on the river.

This was part of a set at Hollywood Studios. I thought that there would be a use for all of these windows! It was a really great car show that took place in the forground but I liked the windows better than the cars! The only thing I did to the picture was to straighten the image.

Outdoor Cooking

Ok - I did not want to go out with the ice storm and snow today so I decided to use a photo from camping over Labor Day. This is a 15 lb Turkey that we hang upside down over an open fire. It takes 5 - 6 hours and it has a slight smokey taste. We usually do this on Labor Day or Columbus Day when it is a little bit cooler and everyone loves to sit around the fire.

We always have lots of people saying "I'm joining you for supper!"

Big Events

Burn's Night 2009. The Scots celebrate the birth of Robert Burns the Scottish Bard. Most of you will know him from his writing of Auld Lang Syne that everyone sings on New Year's Eve.

The presentation that you see being made here is the "Presentation of the Haggis!" Burns wrote a poem called "To A Haggis" which is always performed at a Burns Night Ceremony.

Abandoned

I found this little shed that looks so abandoned and lonely on our way to the reservoir. It looks like it should be a vibrant potting shed.

It could also have been used as a feeding station for some farm animals I guess. I just know sitting out in the snow and falling apart made it look very sad.

Architectural Details

We decided to go back out to the reservoir today to see what we could find of interest. The Old Stone Church in West Boylston, MA is one of the most photographed buildings in this area. I find it a very interesting area to roam around and read the history. Many houses, factories and buildings were abandoned and the area was flooded over for the reservoir. The old stone church is vacant inside and the shell still stands where it has been all these years.

Sunrise, Sunset...-- Definitely Sunset

We were out visiting friends this afternoon about 15 miles from home and of course, I was not going anywhere without my camera. On our journey back we were driving along the Wachusett Reservoir which is a large water supply for the City of Boston and surrounding areas. It was getting close to sunset and I asked my husband to pull over at the top of the Dam in Clinton, MA so we could see if I could capture the sunsetting. Well, since 9-11 there is no where that you can pull off the road by any of our dams (I do understand the reasons) but it makes it very difficult to try and get off the road to take a picture. With the snow piled up the sides of the guard rails it made it impossible to pull off. So in a last ditch effort I took this one out the window as we were driving down the road. I could not believe my luck when I got home! Hope you like it as much as I do......

This was the first photograph that I took that made me want to learn more. I had recently met my husband and we were out on a schooner for a day cruise in Gloucester Harbor. I didn't have a fancy camera, I had a throw away, waterproof camera. The company I worked for was holding a contest for calendar pictures and I decided I liked this one enough to put it in the hat. Low and behold I won! It was in the calendar for a whole year. Since then I've always dabbled but since we bought the Nikon D50.... I don't want to put it down. I'm having so much fun and learning too! Thanks everyone for all your comments. Keep them coming.

Letters

I have been looking at these letters on our windowsill for the last 12 years (that's how long we've been married!) and didn't know what these were for so I finally asked my husband about them. They are letters that were used for type face printing, you put individual letters down to form words. Who knew? I just thought that they would fit the Theme for Letters.

Feline Friends (January 18)

Animal Kingdom has a wonderful safari ride and this is just one of the beautiful sites that you are able to view and take pictures of. One of the biggest challenges is that the vehicle you are riding in never stops and the bumps and turns they take are very unnerving if you have on a telephoto lens. The driver on the safari ride said this was an unusual site to see both the male and female resting so close together. After I took this shot the female wandered off into the back and the group behind us never got to see her.

Magical or Mystical (January 17th)

This is the most Magical of all of Disney - the Electric Parade at Magic Kingdom with Mickey in the Lead. It was a wonderful Parade down Main Street with all the characters. It was a difficult shot to get with the darkness and all the flashes going off and all the people standing and waving. This was number 10 of the shots I took.

We've had about 10 inches of snow since we've returned from vacation and I'm ready to go back to Flordia. Even our poor little birds can't get to the seed and suet we put out for them.

How could I go to Disney and not think of Toys! The one that stands out most in my mind is Mr. Potato Head. We have given so many versions of this toy to "Jordan" a friends son. I just could not pick another toy!

During our time at Disney there many Themes that presented themselves as you can imagine. We loved Animal Kingdom and spent a great deal of time there. One of the things that I don't like in the animal world is bats but these presented themselves with the flags and banners and I thought the presentation would go well for the Theme.

This was a display in the French Perfume store in Disney. I could not decide if I wanted to use it for the pampered theme or footwear. But after much deliberation it came around to footwear! Everywhere I turned in Disney there was an stunning display that dazzled the eyes. The thing that was probably most amazing was that it was not all for children!

I was sitting here working on the computer this afternoon and the sun started to shine in the window onto this candle holder and I thought wow this is a picture I need to take. I had a hard time deciding which Theme to use colored glass, red, or shadows.

This is the cove on which we live. Sometime it is covered in snow but right now you can see the black ice. It makes it look so cold. It also makes me fell like a kid again and want to go ice skating because the ice looks so smooth.

I took this on a camping trip this summer and it made me feel warmer today. The wind is howling and I did not leave the house.

You will all know I didn't take this today! But I didn't get out to take a photo today as today is our 12th Anniversary. I did want to get a photo posted today on the first day! I chose this one because it it is one of my favorite photos. I hope everyone will give me some feed back on it. There is an ice cream stand in Connecticut called Buttonwoods. They plant Sunflowers and give hayrides threw the fields for a fee and sell the flowers. The fee and the cost of the flowers go to the Make a Wish Foundation. I thought this was a perfect time and place to go and take pictures. Hope you all enjoy it.

Tomorrow we can only post our pictures but today I wanted to post a couple of beautiful pictures my husband took of our back yard - one this fall and one he took a few days ago.

He has taught me a lot and has helped me to look at photography in a much different way.
